Hey, what is it called when you have just heard (or found about) something and you keep hearing/noticing that? De ja vu? Nah-this is kinda the opposite-Vu ja de. So I discovered this mobile app 'In-shorts from my husband because he looks at it for all his news.
In-shorts, for the uninformed, is a news app -where you get news in short paragraphs. I was having a talk with him the other day on how he plays Netflix (mostly 'The Bing Bang Theory') and looks at In-shorts for all his meals. The very next day I read that the logo of the app has NIS(News In Short) written in Morse Code. And I was like-'Hey, I know this app!' Get it? Vu ja de.
Or when I discovered that the nomenclature for 7/11 stores come from how the store was the first in its time to run 7 days a week, 11 hours a day -which was not common for other stores then. The store that we stop by amidst our weekly vegetable shopping - because Hungry? Grab a Snickers!
Or maybe the time when we went to an Indian store to get jaggery because I wanted to make puli inji because what is Onam without Puli Inji. And the store had two options-powdered or non powdered ones. The novice in cooking that I am - I confidently pick up the non-powdered one because that's what I have seen back in India. Cut to - I have been instructed to add 6 tbsp of powdered jaggery. I know- jaggery melts and eventually it does not matter but what about the measurement? So how big of the lump that I am holding in my hand is 6 tbsp or 50 gm? So I spend 15 minutes making powder from the lump I am holding and then add 6 tbsps.
Or the time when I tagged along with my husband for his driving lesson just after getting my learners'. I had just discovered that Bus lanes are colored pink, continuous lines means you have to stop, in a roundabout always give way to the vehicles who are already there etc. etc. Every time the instructor says anything related to these things , the Monica (from F.R.I.E.N.D.S) inside me goes-"I know, I know!"
Okay, the driving part may be a bit far-fetched! It is just me discovering the traffic rules late in life. But the other instances- they do draw a connect ,no? I guess it is the feeling of familiarity for the things you know or have just learnt about. When we are inundated with information-maybe only those things strike a chord which you know in some way. Things are always there-you just notice them when you are aware about them.
PS- As I write this I google if Vu ja de actually exists and guess what? It does-but with a meaning different from what I am talking about.
PPS-If given a choice of jaggery lump or powdered jaggery, always go for powdered jaggery. Always!
